Is The Common Core Killing Our Creativity?

This is an interesting read.  It seems to me, if you’re an effective teacher, no matter what mandates come along, you can make the classroom experience worthwhile and interesting.  I can’t say that I agree or disagree with what the state is doing, but I do know that I don’t support teachers who “teach to the test” when the point of the common core is to teach skills. (I get the frustration with the evaluation system, I live that, too. But that’s a different story, in my opinion.)  If you are the teacher you say you are–or want to be–do what’s right within the confines of the latest and greatest mandate. When it comes down to it, learning should be worthwhile.  It’s your job as a teacher to make it that way.
